Now let’s go back to the close reading of the next Narsinh Mehta poem. Here is the text, transliteration, and the translation.

Safal Rajni

Kusumchaa haar te kanth bhushan dhari, bhuj bhidi bhoodare hrdayaa saathe,
suratsangraam-shu hun-a taan jaee bhadi, jeetyo yadunath kar behu baathe.  Safal . . . 2

Fruitful this night burgeons

Fruitful this laudable night burgeons, My Love sat me a-bed showering laughter

Looking at my image in the mirror, loving kiss upon my cheek he bestows.  Fruitful . . . 1

With flower-garland adorned neck, the earth-upholder crushed me in his arms,

Into the love-battle, I crushed the yadava-lord with both my arms.  Fruitful . . . 2

Cupid’s cavalry I called to my aid, in victorious battle I won the field,

I vanquished the lord of fourteen worlds, winner of the insuperable I was declared. Fruitful . . . 3

With a love-struck elephant’s massive delicacy, beauty’s bed lion-like Hari approached,

Grasping the right royal ear, say truly, ‘twas I made Narasaiya’s Lord dance. Fruitful . . .4
